Former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has openly criticized Labour Party (LP) flagbearer Peter Obi for visiting former military president General Ibrahim Babangida in Minna, Niger State.
Peter Obi shared news of the visit on his X account, stating that it was an opportunity to discuss national issues with the elder statesman. Obi described Babangida’s insights and guidance as invaluable and extended New Year wishes to the retired general.
However, Sowore reacted sharply, accusing Obi of hypocrisy. In a post on his X account, @YeleSowore, Sowore referred to Babangida as a “Nigerian-ruiner,” blaming the former military leader for many of the nation’s enduring challenges.
“How can anyone claim to be saving Nigeria while paying homage to someone like Ibrahim Babangida, whose regime contributed significantly to Nigeria’s troubles? Jokers!” Sowore wrote.
Obi’s visit to Babangida came after he offered condolences to Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi over the recent deaths of the governor’s mother and son.
Sowore’s criticism of Obi has become a recurring theme, with the activist-politician often using such moments to attack the former Anambra State governor’s political moves.
