The Borno State Police Command has recovered three explosive projectiles concealed in a sack and abandoned in the Dala Kafanti area of Maiduguri, the state capital.
The discovery was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nahum Daso.
According to Daso, the recovery followed a report by a resident who found the suspicious sack near her home.
Daso explained, “On January 2, 2025, at approximately 9:25 AM, Asabe James, a resident of Dala Kafanti, alerted the police to a suspicious sack containing unidentified items behind her house.
The command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN) team quickly responded, securing the area and recovering three projectiles from the sack.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosives were likely dropped by unknown individuals earlier that morning.
Following the recovery, the police educated residents on safety measures when encountering suspicious objects.
The advice included remaining calm, noting the object’s location, maintaining a safe distance, and promptly reporting to authorities.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, reassured the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining safety and urged vigilance.
He encouraged residents to report suspicious activities or objects through emergency lines: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
In related developments, the Borno Police Command recovered 18 unexploded explosive devices and arrested 721 suspects for various crimes in 2024.
During an end-of-year briefing, CP Lawal credited the command’s achievements to enhanced policing strategies and the dedication of officers.
