Labour Party’s Rhodes-Vivour slams Tinubu, says economic reforms only favour elites

Must read

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, has criticized the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that they disproportionately benefit a select few while leaving the majority of Nigerians struggling.

Since assuming office in May 2023, Tinubu’s government has implemented reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira.

Despite the President’s commitment to maintaining these policies, Rhodes-Vivour contends that they have led to widespread hardship.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, he highlighted the severe economic strain on Nigerians.

“Over 70% of people’s income is now spent on transportation and food. Housing is no longer even a consideration for many,” he remarked.

He further criticized what he described as a culture of wastefulness and extravagance within the government, which he believes contradicts the administration’s push for economic reform.

According to him, the only groups benefiting from these policies appear to be bankers, government officials, and close associates of the President.

“How many ordinary Nigerians can genuinely say they are benefitting from these reforms?” he questioned.

Reports indicate that these policies have exacerbated inflation, further worsening economic challenges for the average Nigerian.
