Gunmen behead chieftaincy candidate in Bayelsa

The community of Agbere in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is in mourning following the kidnapping and beheading of Mr. Clement Hamo, a candidate for the traditional stool of the town.

Hamo was reportedly abducted on Christmas Day by unknown gunmen, who swiftly took him away via the river. On Tuesday, his headless body was found floating on the River Forcados in Delta State.

The motive behind the abduction and murder remains unclear, as no ransom was demanded. Hamo was known to be an aspirant for the community’s traditional leadership.

A local source shared, “We received information about a body stuck on the River Forcados. Some youths went to investigate and confirmed it was the missing victim. The body was beheaded, and they brought it back for burial. He was contesting for the position of the traditional ruler.”

The source described the victim as a well-regarded individual, noting, “He was a good man, known for his kindness. The community is devastated by this tragic event.”

Another community member expressed shock, saying, “News of the kidnapping, beheading, and discovery of our kinsman’s headless body has spread across social media, and it has deeply shaken Agbere.”

In response, Bayelsa State Police Spokesperson Musa Mohammed confirmed awareness of the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing.
