2027: No agreement on nerger with any political party – Obi

Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has clarified that there is currently no agreement between the LP and any other opposition party regarding a merger.

Speaking in Abuja, Obi addressed rumors suggesting that the LP had entered into merger discussions with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

While he did not confirm or deny the possibility of merger talks, he firmly stated, “There is no agreement yet.”

Obi called for unity among Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, emphasizing that only through collective efforts could the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of mismanaging the country’s resources, be defeated.

On the state of Nigeria’s security, Obi expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence, including banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping-for-ransom, lamenting the loss of innocent lives.

He also criticized the current administration’s claims of fighting corruption, asserting that corruption levels remain high.

According to Obi, the cost of governance has skyrocketed, contributing to the rising public debt, exacerbated by government officials’ misuse of public funds through frequent foreign travels in 2024.
