Woman allegedly murders husband in Niger after domestic dispute

A shocking incident has left Lafiyagi Dzwafu village in Niger State reeling, as 27-year-old Fatima Dzuma has been accused of killing her husband, Baba Aliyu, in a brutal act of violence.

According to local sources, the couple had been married for three years after Dzuma divorced her first husband.

While the union produced no children, Baba’s first wife had recently given birth, and preparations for the naming ceremony were underway.

Dzuma reportedly confessed that she killed her husband because she “no longer liked him.”

She allegedly strangled him with a scarf before striking him with a pestle multiple times on the head and hand as he slept, breaking his hand.

Following the act, she wrapped his body in a mat, dragged it to the backyard, and cleaned the scene.

For three days, Dzuma denied knowing Baba’s whereabouts as his family searched.

However, she later admitted, “I acted alone,” and is currently in police custody, claiming, “The devil made me do it.”

The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that Baba Aliyu’s body was found in a bush near Katcha on December 31, 2024.

Investigators revealed that Dzuma admitted to killing her husband after he allegedly assaulted her during an argument.

She confessed to hitting him with a pestle while he was asleep, which resulted in his death.

To conceal the crime, Dzuma tied his body with ropes and clothing, wrapped it in a mat, and disposed of it in the bush.

The body has since been retrieved and sent to Bida General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Dzuma remains in custody, awaiting transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna, where further investigations and prosecution will follow.
