Police in Ogun State have apprehended two security guards, Segun Sodiya and Segun Abatan, for allegedly setting a 44-year-old man, Basiru Aliu, on fire in the Agura area of Sabo, Sagamu.

The incident unfolded when Aliu, who was assisting his employer, fatal Ifekoya, with relocating belongings to a new residence in Ijokan, was mistaken for a thief by the guards.

While carrying out his task early Monday morning, Sodiya and Abatan reportedly confronted Aliu and attacked him.

Taking their actions further, the guards doused him with a flammable liquid and set him ablaze.

Chief Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, the Ogin State Police Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the tragic incident.

She explained that the guards, employed by a resident named Kingsley Nwabaeze, believed Aliu was attempting to steal the items he was transporting.

Law enforcement officers from the Division Crime Office and a patrol unit responded promptly to the incident, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
