Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has pledged to build on the firm foundations of development his administration has laid, promising significant strides in agriculture, education, the economy, infrastructure, youth empowerment, social welfare, and poverty alleviation.
In his New Year address delivered in Makurdi, Governor Alia assured the people of Benue State that 2025 would bring unprecedented development and opportunities under his leadership.
He described the year as a chance to consolidate on the gains of the past year and pursue new possibilities for improving the livelihoods of the people.
“Last year, we all witnessed indicators of a new Benue which we are building together—from the establishment of the Benue Multi-purpose ICT and Fashion Hub to the revitalization of the Benue Printing and Publishing Corporation,” he said.
He also highlighted projects such as the unveiling of ZEVA Premium Lager Beer, the ongoing construction of a cancer treatment center at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), and efforts to position the state as a hub for industrial and economic activities.
Governor Alia identified security as a cornerstone for development. He mentioned the recent launch of the Benue Civil Protection Guard, codenamed Anyam Nyor, alongside the provision of vehicles and gadgets to bolster security effort.
He also emphasized the welfare of workers, citing the implementation of a ₦75,000 minimum wage to enhance productivity. In agriculture, his administration distributed 33 tractors and ₦380,000 to community interest groups for climate-smart farming under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) program.
Additionally, the state will continue supplying subsidized farm inputs like fertilizers and improved seedlings to boost agricultural output.
Governor Alia reiterated his administration’s commitment to the recently launched 10-year Benue State Development Plan and the 2025 budget focused on “Human Capital Development, Food Security, and Digital Economy.”
Addressing criticism about his leadership style, he stressed his focus on long-term investments over short-term handouts. “My administration is not about spraying money on the streets for temporary satisfaction but about creating systems and structures that benefit every Benue citizen,” he stated.
Governor Alia urged the people to reflect on his leadership approach and consider the best path for a better Benue. “We are determined to build institutions, facilities, infrastructure, and policies that promote growth for everyone, irrespective of tribe, race, or religion,” he concluded.
He thanked the people of Benue for their support despite challenges, assuring them that his administration remains committed to creating a prosperous future for all.
