Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described Nigeria’s economic state as being on “life support” when President Bola Tinubu assumed office, highlighting the challenges inherited from the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking at the 2024 Constituency Briefing and Empowerment Programme in Ikot Ekpene, Akpabio shared insights into the difficulties President Tinubu faced upon taking office.
He referenced a conversation with Tinubu, where the president reportedly admitted the gravity of the economic crisis confronting the nation.
Akpabio, while acknowledging the pain caused by Tinubu’s economic reforms, emphasized their necessity for Nigeria’s long-term stability and sustainable development.
He urged Nigerians, particularly those from Akwa Ibom State, to remain steadfast in their support for the president’s efforts to rebuild the nation’s economy.
Addressing beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme, Akpabio advised them to use the resources and tools provided to improve their lives and support their families, discouraging the sale of the items for short-term gains.
Akpabio, 62, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, also served as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs under Buhari’s administration.
