Man arrested in Abuja as police uncover weapons cache after shooting

Authorities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have uncovered a stockpile of weapons linked to 33-year-old Obinna Nwigwe, following a shooting at the Najob Guest House in Bwari Area Council.

The FCT Police Command revealed that the discovery came after a gunfire report on December 26, 2024.

According to SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, officers arrived at the scene to find 29-year-old Andrew Philemon critically injured from gunshot wounds allegedly inflicted by Nwigwe.

Nwigwe claimed he acted in self-defense during a heated argument with Philemon, using a pump-action rifle at the time of the shooting.

A subsequent search of Nwigwe’s residence revealed an alarming cache of weapons.

These weapons include five dane guns, an English-made single barrel, an AK-47 magazine loaded with 29 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, four live cartridges, 17 spent cartridges, a bow with arrows, knives, a sword stick, a toy gun, a taser, and a bulletproof jacket.

Multiple sets of police uniforms and boots were also seized.

Philemon is currently receiving medical care at the National Hospital, while Nwigwe faces potential charges pending the conclusion of the investigation.
