The Ogun State Police Command has rescued a 7-year-old girl who had been missing from Ota in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The rescue took place during a covert operation led by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, under the direction of the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo.
According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, the operation, which was driven by swift intelligence and rapid response, resulted in the girl’s recovery in Ayetoro, Ogun State. All individuals involved in the abduction have been arrested.
The statement noted, “Following a covert operation led by CP Lanre Ogunlowo, the missing girl from Ota was found in Ayetoro, Ogun State, and all suspects have been apprehended.” The police assured the public that further details, including information about the suspects and the circumstances of the abduction, would be shared at a press briefing scheduled for the following day.
The police spokesperson also encouraged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The girl, identified as Akinde, was reportedly abducted last week in Sango-Ota, raising public concern.
While the police confirmed the abduction, they refuted claims that officers had demanded N40,000 from the complainant to process the case.
The police acknowledged that the officer initially handling the complaint acted unprofessionally by failing to escalate the matter for immediate attention. Disciplinary measures have been taken against the officers involved for their mishandling of the case.
