Lagos cracks down on noise pollution with stricter regulations on churches, mosques

Must read

The Lagos State Government has introduced tougher regulations to curb noise pollution, mandating that nightclubs, lounges, bars, and religious centres obtain permits for events involving amplified sound.

These measures, aimed at safeguarding public health during the festive period and beyond, were announced by Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, through his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

He emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance approach to noise pollution, urging establishments to conduct sound-amplified activities in soundproof, enclosed venues to minimize harm to residents.

To ensure compliance, a Special Task Force on Noise Pollution, under the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), has been formed.

The task force, working alongside the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LSNSC) and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), will monitor adherence, arrest violators, and enforce prosecution as necessary.
