The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to auction 15,325 litres of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at a rate of ₦400 per litre to help alleviate transportation challenges during the festive season.

Hussein Ejibunu, the National Coordinator of the NCS’s Operation Whirlwind, made the announcement on Saturday during a press briefing at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos.

Ejibunu explained that the seized petrol, valued at ₦27.5 million, was confiscated during operations in Lagos and Ogun states. He confirmed that the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has authorized the auction, with the fuel priced at ₦10,000 per 25-litre container.

The coordinator also assured that all required legal and procedural steps, including a court condemnation order, have been completed by the office of the legal adviser to ensure the auction proceeds smoothly.

“This operation, which started on May 27, 2024, has yielded positive results,” Ejibunu said. “The Comptroller-General has instructed our operatives to continue these efforts until the activities of economic saboteurs are fully eradicated in the country.”

He concluded, “In line with this, the CGC has approved the auctioning of the seized petrol at ₦10,000 per 25 litres to help ease transportation challenges during the festive period.”
