APC to dominate four South-South states by 2027 – Akpabio

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure control of four key states in the South-South region during the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio made this statement while hosting Edo State’s newly elected governor, Monday Okpebholo, at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, over the weekend.

He described Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21 off-season election as divinely orchestrated.

A former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akpabio emphasized that his primary motivation for joining the APC was to bring the six South-South states under the party’s influence.

Currently, the PDP governs four of these states, while the APC controls Edo and Cross River.

Explaining his defection to the APC, Akpabio stated, “Many of us saw the need to realign politically to ensure our people have greater representation at the national level and a stronger voice in the country’s affairs.

My move to the APC was a strategic effort to integrate the South-South into the national political framework.”

He further asserted that the APC is well-positioned to expand its dominance in the region during the next election cycle.
