Former Jigawa Governor criticizes Tinubu, accuses APC of relying on propaganda

Former Jigawa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of misleading Nigerians with propaganda instead of addressing the nation’s challenges.

Speaking during an interview on the BBC Hausa program, Gane Mini Hanya, Lamido claimed that the Tinubu administration, like that of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, lacks transparency in governance.

“Buhari’s and Tinubu’s governments are not being transparent with Nigerians, unlike during the PDP era when governance was open and clear,” Lamido stated.

He further alleged that the use of propaganda became a hallmark of governance under Buhari and has continued under Tinubu. “With the arrival of Buhari, deception and propaganda became tools for running the government,” he said.

Lamido also criticized the Tinubu administration’s financial policies, particularly its handling of loans and budgetary projections. He questioned how a government could claim a budget surplus while continuing to seek loans.

“If Nigerians were being told the truth, there would be no issue. But how do you budget ₦30 trillion, project ₦50 trillion in revenue, and still request loans despite claiming a ₦20 trillion surplus? This kind of recklessness is unheard of in any serious country,” Lamido remarked.

He expressed dismay at what he described as blind support for the APC, even amidst what he called glaring inefficiencies. “On social media, APC is referred to as a calamity, but you still see people defending it,” he added.
