DSS ambush in Niger State neutralizes three notorious bandits, recovers weapons

In a strategic operation on Friday night, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) eliminated three notorious bandits in Dogon Dawa, Mairiga Local Government Area of Niger State.

The ambush, which was the culmination of extensive intelligence gathering, also forced several other bandits to flee into the surrounding forests with gunshot wounds.

During the operation, DSS agents recovered three AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles abandoned by the escaping criminals.

Sources revealed that the success of the ambush stemmed from weeks of surveillance and intercepted communications between the bandits.

“This operation is one of many conducted by the DSS in the Northwest and Northeast regions, targeting criminal groups terrorizing innocent civilians,” a security source disclosed.

The DSS has also carried out several successful missions against the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in the Southeast, further bolstering national security efforts.

The enhanced intelligence activities of the DSS have been pivotal in aiding the military and other security agencies in apprehending or neutralizing terrorists across the country.

Since the appointment of Mr. Tosin Ajayi as Director-General by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the DSS has intensified intelligence operations and strengthened collaboration with the military, reducing the frequency of ambushes on security personnel.

A military officer, speaking anonymously, praised the DSS for its invaluable contributions to ongoing security operations, noting that many of their successes remain unreported due to their covert approach under the new leadership.

President Tinubu has pledged continued support for the DSS, including the integration of artificial intelligence to enhance security measures.

This commitment was reiterated last month during the investiture ceremony for graduates of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) Executive Intelligence Management Course in Abuja.
