Stampede: South West Muslim leaders commiserate with Oyo, Anambra govts

Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) the umbrella body of Muslims in the South West has commiserate with government and the people of Oyo State over the death of over 35 children.

Afripost reports that the stampede occured at Islamic High School, Bashorun Ibadan on Wednesday 18th December, 2024.

The incident occured during a children carnival held in the school.

MUSWEN in its reaction, described the incident as unfortunate.

The organisation regretted that it is very disheartening that, an event which was organised with a good intention of helping less-priviledged children eventually ended on a sour note.

The organisation prayed to God Almighty, to console those who lost their loved ones and also, the government of Oyo State over the loss of lives of those innocent children.

MUSWEN in a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Professor Muslih Tayo Yahay also implored those who may be planning events of large magnitude to always take all precautionary measures, by providing for medical emergencies, adequate security, and proper planning for crowd control.

“It is very disheartening that, an event which was organised with a good intention of helping less-privileged children eventually ended on a sour note.

“We pray to God Almighty, to console those who lost their loved ones and also, the government of Oyo State over the loss of lives of those innocent children.

“We also implore those who may be planning events of large magnitude to always take all precautionary measures, by providing for medical emergencies, adequate security, and proper planning for crowd control.

“We also send our condolences to the government and the good people of Anambra State; Minister and the good people of FCT over the similar losses they suffered arising from stampede, may God Almighty console them.

“We beseech Allah (swt) to help avert situations that bring grieve to our land and save us from all calamitie, Aamin”.
