Police begin search for killers of Catholic Priest in Anambra

Authorities in Anambra State have initiated an intense manhunt for those responsible for the murder of a Catholic priest in Ihiala Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the development in a statement released on Friday.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday when the priest, Tobias Okonkwo, who also worked as a pharmacist, was fatally shot by unidentified attackers along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., according to church officials.

Superintendent Ikenga stated that the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono, has pledged to exhaust all efforts to apprehend the culprits.

Mr Obono extended his condolences to the priest’s family and the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, describing the incident as a great loss.

The police chief urged residents to assist security agencies by providing any information that could advance the investigation, assuring the public that all tips would be handled with strict confidentiality.
