The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has sanctioned the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications Ltd. from MTN Nigeria’s network due to outstanding interconnect charges.
In a public notice signed by Reuben Muoka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, the commission announced the decision on Friday.
According to the statement, Exchange Telecommunications serves as both a local and international interconnect carrier.
The NCC clarified that the decision was made after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the company’s failure to settle the charges and finding no valid justification for the non-payment.
The action aligns with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, and the 2012 Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators.
The NCC emphasized that MTN would cease routing voice and data traffic through Exchange Telecommunications five days after the notice was issued.
Alternative channels would be used to connect with other network operators, and the disconnection would remain in effect until further notice.
