Nigerian army arrests suspected Boko Haram member, kidnappers in Taraba

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have detained a man suspected of being linked to Boko Haram in Taraba State.

The suspect, identified as Nura Yakubu, was taken into custody on December 20, 2024, at Garba Chede in Bali Local Government Area.

In a statement released in Jalingo, the state capital, the Brigade’s Acting Spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, also confirmed the arrest of individuals involved in the abduction of a district head.

The district head, kidnapped on November 27, 2024, in Jalingo, was freed after a ransom was paid.

Subsequent operations led to the apprehension of Musa Suito on December 18, 2024, also in Jalingo. Suito, who served as a vigilante offering security to prominent individuals, allegedly used his role to provide intelligence to kidnappers.

Recovered from him were a Dane gun and two cartridges.

The Brigade’s investigation into Yakubu revealed that he worked as a food vendor while allegedly sheltering Boko Haram operatives in the state.

Yakubu and his associates were also linked to the kidnappings of a businessman, Mr. Arinze, and the son of Alhaji Ibrahim in Bali Local Government.

Brigade Commander Kingsley Uwa reiterated the Army’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property across Taraba State.

He called on the public to remain vigilant and share reliable information with security forces to support ongoing efforts against criminal activities.
