Nigeria will not allow borders to be used for attacks – CDS Musa

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa has reiterated Nigeria’s stance that its borders will not be used as a launch point for attacks on any foreign country.

General Musa made the statement on Thursday in Sokoto, while addressing troops participating in “Operation Fansan Yamma” during a Christmas luncheon.

He emphasized that no foreign military base would be allowed on Nigerian soil and reassured the nation of its ability to manage its security challenges. “We have the capacity and capability to handle our security issues. We can collaborate with other nations through training, sending our personnel abroad and welcoming theirs as well,” Musa said.

The CDS also reassured Nigeria’s neighbouring countries—Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Benin, and Togo—of Nigeria’s commitment to mutual security. “Any criminal element using Nigerian soil to attack our neighbours is an enemy of Nigeria, and we will take decisive action against them,” he stated. “We are one with our neighbours and will neutralize such threats.”

General Musa urged Nigerians to view the nation’s security challenges as a collective responsibility, stressing that the military alone cannot solve these issues. He also warned against individuals or groups exploiting religious or ethnic sentiments to deceive communities.

“Many come pretending to be allies but later reveal their true intentions,” he said, citing the example of the Lakurawa, who initially appeared friendly but later became a significant threat.

The CDS affirmed that the military remains committed to eradicating all criminal elements in Nigeria.

“Communities that harbor criminals must either expel them or face the consequences of our operations,” he warned. “We respect human rights but will take firm action against those who aid or support threats to national security.”

General Musa also commended President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support for the armed forces and praised the leadership of Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu for their continued backing of military operations in the region.
