Ali Ndume, the Senator representing Borno South, has shared a video depicting large crowds of Nigerians lining up for palliatives at President Bola Tinubu’s Lagos residence on Christmas Eve.
The video, posted on Ndume’s X account on Wednesday, December 25, captures the senator’s reflections on the state of poverty in the country.
“Long queues for palliatives at Bourdillon on Christmas Eve underscore a harsh reality. Poverty is a shared burden that requires collective action and lasting solutions,” Ndume wrote.
His remarks follow a series of tragic stampedes during palliative distributions in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, which claimed the lives of over 60 people.
The senator used the moment to draw attention to the deepening poverty in southern Nigeria, challenging the narrative that the region is immune to the economic struggles often associated with the North.
