Police arrest notorious kidnapping, robbery Suspect in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 38-year-old suspect, Pablo Mamu, linked to kidnapping and armed robbery activities in the Ihiala Local Government Area.

Mamu, a native of Ughelli in Delta State, was apprehended by a joint security team acting on credible intelligence.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed in a statement on Thursday that several incriminating items were recovered from the suspect.

They include a locally-made pistol, a live 9mm round, eight live cartridges, and a black Lexus 330 SUV with two conflicting license plates—Abuja ABJ 159 LC and Enugu JRV 928 SX.

Ikenga explained, “In the early hours of December 23, 2024, operatives from the police and Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) raided the suspect’s hideout based on actionable intelligence.

“During the operation, the suspect was arrested, and the listed items were seized.”

Commending the collaboration between security agencies and the public, the state Commissioner of Police praised the role of timely intelligence in enhancing security, especially during the festive season.

He called for sustained efforts to maintain peace and safety across the state.

This development follows another success by the Anambra Police Command on November 30, 2024, when officers thwarted a kidnapping attempt by suspected members of a secessionist group.

One suspect was neutralized in the encounter, while others escaped with injuries.
