The Nigerian Military has refuted allegations of bombing civilians during recent operations in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 25, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullah, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Hadarin Daji, described the claims as false and clarified the basis of the military’s actions.
Earlier reports by some media outlets alleged that a military fighter jet targeted and destroyed civilian structures in the area. Responding to these reports, Abdullah expressed concern over such claims, emphasizing that military operations are meticulously planned and executed based on reliable intelligence and reconnaissance missions.
“This rigorous process is especially critical when targeting groups like the Lakurawa terrorist organization, as it ensures precision strikes and safeguards civilian lives,” Abdullah explained.
He also cautioned the public against accepting unverified information, warning of potential propaganda efforts by terrorist groups aimed at discrediting military achievements.
“There is a significant risk that terrorist groups may attempt to undermine military successes through media disinformation. It is vital to exercise caution and rely on verified information, particularly in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry,” he added.
The statement further clarified that the targets struck near Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa were positively identified as being associated with the Lakurawa terrorist group, reaffirming the legitimacy of the military’s actions.
The military reiterated its commitment to protecting civilians while maintaining precision in its operations against threats to national security.
