The Edo State Police Command has apprehended Theophilus Osazuwa, a man accused of killing his four-year-old son, Testimony Osazuwa, in Benin City.
According to a statement from the police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, the tragic incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, when Osazuwa returned home to his apartment at Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road.
Yamu explained that Osazuwa, allegedly under the influence of hard drugs, went into a trance, screaming “Holy Ghost fire” before grabbing his son and slamming him against a wall.
The child was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Osazuwa, known for his use of illicit substances, may have acted under the influence when the incident occurred.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Umoru Ozigi, has warned young people about the dangers of consuming illicit drugs, stressing the serious health risks and the potential harm they can cause to both the individual and others around them.
