In a heartbreaking turn of events, Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has lost his eldest son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi, to a motor accident just 24 hours after mourning the death of his mother, Hajia Maryam Namadi.
The tragic accident occurred on Thursday along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road. Abdulwahab, 24, was reportedly traveling with friends when the vehicle he was driving lost control and somersaulted. While he did not survive, some of his friends are currently receiving treatment at Dutse General Hospital.
Confirming the incident, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Gumel, released a statement:
“With deep sorrow, Governor Umar Namadi announces the passing of his beloved son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi, who died on Thursday, December 26, 2024, in a tragic motor accident along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road.
“Burial rites are being conducted in Kafin Hausa town, in line with Islamic traditions.”
The statement also noted that Abdulwahab is survived by his parents and siblings.
The tragedy comes just a day after Governor Namadi lost his mother, Hajia Maryam Namadi, who passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.
The twin losses have left the state in shock, with an outpouring of condolences from residents and leaders across the country, offering prayers and support to the governor and his family during this difficult time.
