The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has revealed that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) apprehended 30,313 individuals for various criminal activities and rescued 1,581 victims of abduction in 2024.
Speaking during a strategic meeting with senior officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Egbetokun also disclosed that 1,984 firearms and 23,250 rounds of ammunition were recovered during the year.
According to a statement by the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP reviewed the Force’s 2024 achievements and outlined strategic plans for 2025.
He commended police officers for their dedication and their role in reducing crime and enhancing community relations.
“In the past year, we have achieved remarkable success in combating crime,” the statement noted.
“These include the arrest of thousands of suspects, the recovery of illegal firearms, and the rescue of numerous kidnap victims.”
Looking ahead, Egbetokun emphasized the importance of adopting innovative technologies and modern strategies to strengthen policing efforts in 2025.
He urged senior officers to leverage advanced tools and progressive practices to improve crime prevention and investigation.
As the festive season approaches, the IGP assured citizens that the police are prepared to implement measures that ensure public safety and peace.
He reiterated the NPF’s commitment to building trust with the public, prioritizing accountability, and fostering a secure environment for all.
