Elder statesman and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees member, Bode George, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent media appearance, describing it as devoid of empathy and compassion.
In an interview on Politics Today aired by Channels Television on Tuesday, George expressed deep disappointment in the President’s remarks, particularly considering the severe challenges faced by many Nigerians.
Highlighting the tragic stampedes in Abuja, Anambra, and Ibadan during food distributions that resulted in the loss of 67 lives, George pointed to widespread hunger and frustration gripping the nation. He accused the administration of ignoring the deteriorating economic reality, including increasing poverty and the collapse of businesses, despite claims that its reforms are working.
“Hunger doesn’t respond to rhetoric; the situation is worsening daily,” George said.
He also criticized the tone of Tinubu’s media engagement, stating it lacked the necessary gravity and humanity given the country’s struggles. “Where is the somberness and compassion? Why even hold such a discussion in these circumstances?” George questioned.
Calling for immediate action, George urged the government to lower petrol prices and implement effective palliative measures to ease the suffering of citizens, whom he described as being pushed deeper into poverty by current policies.
Concluding his remarks, George argued that Tinubu’s handling of national issues is far from the appropriate way to end what has been a difficult year for Nigerians.
