There have been fresh concerns among Nigerians as gunmen have reportedly resumed a sporadic wave of kidnappings across the country.
Yesterday, gunmen kidnapped seven individuals travelling through the Sabon Borno area in Sokoto State.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, the armed men intercepted a commercial vehicle near Chin Golf village early Tuesday morning.
The victims, including six women and a driver, were dragged from the vehicle and taken into a forest.
Sources believe the assailants may be linked to Turji Bello, a notorious bandit leader.
This incident follows a series of recent kidnappings.
On December 22, gunmen ambushed a vehicle travelling to Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, near Emure Ile.
All 18 passengers were abducted, and the attackers reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦30 million per victim.
Earlier, on December 10, armed men raided Kakidawa in Zamfara State’s Goga district, Maradun LGA, abducting at least 43 people.
The attackers fired indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee into the surrounding bushes.
They then conducted a house-to-house search, capturing women and children who couldn’t escape.
No ransom has been requested for these victims so far.
This surge in kidnappings underscores the growing insecurity in various regions of Nigeria.
