Edo LG Councillors deny impeachment moves against Chairman

Councillors of Etsako East Local Government Area in Edo State have refuted claims of an impeachment plot against their chairman, Hon. Benedicta Attoh.

Speaking during a solidarity visit to Chairman Attoh’s residence in Okpekpe, the councillors, led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Solomon Oghuma, dismissed the rumours as baseless.

They reaffirmed their loyalty, stating that no amount of pressure or inducement could sway them against a leader they described as compassionate and dedicated to human welfare.

“We stand firmly behind our chairman and call for her reinstatement so she can continue serving humanity,” the councillors said, commending her for her exemplary leadership and contributions to the council and the people of Etsako East. They emphasized their commitment to protecting democracy in the state and praised Chairman Attoh for her impactful welfare programs and passion for improving lives.

In response, Chairman Attoh expressed gratitude to the councillors and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their unwavering support. She highlighted the cooperative relationship among councillors, supervisors, civil servants, and other stakeholders in the local government council, attributing her achievements to this unity.

Attoh also appealed to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to reconsider his decision and reinstate the suspended chairmen. She emphasized the need for peace and unity in the state, expressing her willingness to work with the governor to achieve his goals.

“The Governor of Edo State is the father of all, irrespective of political affiliation. I have done nothing to warrant suspension. As a father, we appeal to him to allow us to continue serving the masses. We remain committed to supporting him and his vision for the state,” she said.

Chairman Attoh expressed hope that Governor Okpebholo, known for his peaceful nature, would reconsider his decision and reinstate the suspended chairmen. She concluded by placing her faith in divine intervention, stating, “God is the ultimate authority, and we trust Him for guidance and help.”
