Ibadan stampede: Court remands Ooni’s ex-wife, Oriyomi, ohers in prison

Must read

An Ibadan Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of Naomi Silekunola, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife; renowned broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat; and the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, in prison custody.

The trio face charges in connection with the tragic stampede that claimed the lives of at least 35 children during a funfair in Ibadan last week. The event, organized by the Ooni’s ex-wife in collaboration with the veteran broadcaster, turned fatal when chaos erupted.

At their arraignment on Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Bisi Ogunkanmi charged the defendants with four counts, including conspiracy and murder. All three pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The court has adjourned the case to January 13, 2025, for further hearing.
