A domestic disagreement over a tuber of yam has reportedly led to the tragic death of Charity Nwafor, allegedly at the hands of her husband, Joshua Nwafor, in Nsokkara, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The couple, married for 17 years and parents to several children, were known for their previously peaceful relationship.
Joshua, a 40-year-old native of Nsokkara, was married to Charity, who hailed from Awkuzu in Onicha Local Government Area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the argument started when Joshua decided to cook yam for the family, but Charity preferred roasted yam and proceeded to prepare it her way.
This seemingly minor disagreement escalated, with Joshua reportedly dragging Charity into their room, locking the door, and allegedly beating her to death.
An eyewitness emphasized the need for peaceful conflict resolution in marriages and urged individuals to leave abusive relationships, regardless of societal expectations.
Reacting to the incident, Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, condemned the act as tragic and unacceptable.
