Nigerian troops have apprehended four suspected members of the Ambazonia rebel group in Taraba State.
The individuals, notorious for arms trafficking across Nigeria, were arrested on December 18, 2024, at a hotel in Takum by soldiers from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, the suspects were reportedly involved in trading firearms for cocoa with local criminal networks.
Captain Oni Olubodunde, the spokesperson for the 6 Brigade, confirmed the arrests to SaharaReporters on Saturday.
“Acting on reliable intelligence, troops intercepted the suspects at their location,” Olubodunde stated.
“Preliminary questioning revealed their role in arms proliferation activities. Four mobile phones were confiscated from the suspects, who remain in custody for further investigation.”
In a separate operation in the Natilde community of Wukari Local Government Area, troops intercepted a truck loaded with 19 stolen oil pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).
Collaborative efforts with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) led to the recovery of an additional 11 pipelines, bringing the total to 30. The items have since been handed over to the NSCDC for further inquiry.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives, property, and critical national infrastructure, urging the public to assist security agencies by providing credible information.
