The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has described the arrest of principal of Islamic High School Bashorun Ibadan, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi as unfair and selective justice when the owner of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat remains free.
MURIC made this declaration in a statement signed by its Oyo state chairman, Barrister Abdul Waheed Lawal.
Recall that the principal was arrested by men of Oyo state police command on Wednesday in connection with stampede that occurred in the school.
It was learnt that the children carnival was organised by a non governmental organisation led by Naomi Silekunola, an enstgraned wife of Ooni of Ile Ife while the radio station was used to advertise the programme.
Lawal while reacting, said that the organisation believe that Fasasi should not be used as a sacrificial lamb to cover up the potential culpability of the ministry of education.
He added that available reports indicated that the principal acted on instructions from higher authorities and took necessary precautions to ensure safety.
Lawal while speaking further, said that it is on record that Fasasi was ordered to allow Agidigbo FM to use the school venue from November 2024 to October 2025.
Lawal condemned the arrest of Fasasi by the police when Hazmat remains free.
He described the action of the police as selective justice.
“We strongly believe that Mr. Fasasi should not be used as a sacrificial lamb to cover up the potential culpability of the Oyo State Ministry of Education. All available reports indicate that the principal acted on instructions from higher authorities and took necessary precautions to ensure safety.
“It is on record that Mr. Fasasi was ordered to allow Agidigbo FM to use the school venue from November 2024 to October 2025. The children’s funfair program, which led to the tragic incident, was part of Agidigbo’s events. Notably, Queen Naomi and Agidigbo FM have been linked as collaborators.
“We question the rationale behind detaining Mr. Fasasi while the owner of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, remains free. This selective justice raises concerns about the fairness and impartiality of the investigation”.
