A fatal accident on the Benin-Ore-Ijebu Ode Expressway in Ore, Ondo State, has claimed the lives of three police officers and several suspects in their custody.
The incident occurred near the Odigbo Local Government headquarters when a truck lost control while descending the Ore Bridge.
The truck reportedly crashed into the police vehicle carrying the officers and suspects.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the officers were part of a monitoring team traveling from Akure to Ore to make an arrest.
A female suspect in custody also died instantly, while another officer who sustained critical injuries was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
“The deceased officers and a female suspect died on the spot,” a source said. “The team had traveled from Akure to arrest the suspect when the unfortunate incident occurred.”
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, stating, “The incident happened; that is all I can say for now.”
