Kidnapping: We have achieved 80 percent success – Ribadu downplays NBS report

Must read

National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has attained over 80% success in combating kidnapping across the country.

This milestone, he noted, is the result of sacrifices made by security personnel and effective coordination by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Ribadu made the statement during the inauguration of the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell (MAAKFC) at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Abuja. Describing kidnapping as a critical security challenge, he highlighted its impact on families, economic activities, and national stability.

“In less than two years, we’ve achieved 80% success,” Ribadu said.

“This progress comes from the tireless efforts of soldiers and security personnel who work in challenging conditions to restore normalcy.

“They are the unsung heroes who deserve recognition.”

Ribadu emphasized the importance of a collaborative, multi-agency approach in tackling kidnapping, urging the fusion cell’s personnel—drawn from various security and intelligence agencies—to apply their skills and work together to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework.

“The Federal Government acknowledges your work and is committed to supporting you with the necessary resources to ensure success,” he assured.

Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka, the NCTC National Coordinator, lauded the establishment of the fusion cell as a significant step in combating kidnapping.

He explained that the cell would coordinate responses, analyze trends, and enhance the capacity of security personnel.

Laka also noted the role of international collaboration, particularly the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA), in providing training and resources for the initiative.

The fusion cell brings together over 15 law enforcement agencies and stakeholders, all working in unison to address the kidnapping menace across the nation.
