Former President Muhammadu Buhari has refuted claims that his property in Abuja has been revoked by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari clarified that the property in question was not personally owned by him but allocated to the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation, a non-profit organization established by his close associates.
Shehu emphasized that Buhari has no personal property or land registered in his name in Abuja. He explained that the foundation lawfully acquired the land with support from well-meaning Nigerians and associates of the former president.
The acquisition process, however, encountered challenges due to bureaucratic hurdles. According to Shehu, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) presented an unusually high fee for the issuance of the certificate of occupancy, a charge inconsistent with similar organizations’ cases.
Shehu further stated that the recent revocation of the property by the FCT Minister did not come as a surprise to the former president. He noted that Buhari, even during his presidency, expressed no interest in acquiring additional property in Abuja.
“Let those spreading misinformation online get their facts straight and stop dragging the name of the former president into baseless controversies,” Shehu said in the statement.
