Again, vandals destroy transmission lines, leaves Abuja residents in darkness

Must read

Several areas of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have experienced power outages following another act of vandalism targeting the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line.

Ndidi Mbah, spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), confirmed this in a statement issued late Thursday evening.

The incident occurred around 11:43 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, leading to the disruption of power supply along the transmission line.

A TCN patrol team that was sent to inspect the site found that vandals had stolen a section of the conductor between towers T216 and T218.

Mbah noted that a maintenance crew had been sent to the scene and is actively working to repair the damaged power conductor.

While the exact timeline for restoring bulk power supply through the affected line has not been provided, Mbah assured that efforts are underway to make the necessary repairs as quickly as possible.

Previously, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company had issued notices indicating that several parts of the capital city, including key areas such as the CBN Headquarters, Ecumenical Centre, and multiple hotels and institutions, would experience power outages due to the incident.

This is the second such incident involving the Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line this year, following a similar case in March 2024.
