A young man in Osun State, Nigeria, has been sentenced to death by hanging for allegedly stealing a fowl.
The verdict drew public attention and sparked outrage, prompting Governor Ademola Adeleke to pledge clemency.
In a statement, Governor Adeleke expressed his concern over the case, describing it as alarming.
He revealed that he had instructed the state attorney general and commissioner for justice to investigate the circumstances thoroughly and initiate steps for granting a pardon.
“Osun is a state built on justice and fairness,” the governor remarked, emphasizing his commitment to equity and the sanctity of life.
He assured the public that the case was being handled with urgency under his direct supervision.
