A young mother, Blessing Ibuku, has admitted to throwing her 10-month-old son, Prevail Jonathan, into a river in Delta State after being mocked about his paternity.
Ibuku was presented alongside 30 other suspects accused of various crimes at the Delta State Police Command on Tuesday, December 17.
Addressing the press, Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, explained that Ibuku confessed to the act during an investigation. According to Olufemi, the baby was reported missing on December 4, and his body was later discovered in the Aviara community river.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime, stating that she acted out of frustration after being ridiculed by her friends who referred to her child as a ‘bastard,’” Olufemi disclosed.
The commissioner noted that while challenges persist, collaborative efforts with other security agencies and stakeholders have helped improve safety in the state.
Ibuku is currently in police custody, and investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing.
