The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Port Harcourt Region, has successfully restored electricity to most parts of Bayelsa State following a prolonged four-month outage caused by vandalism.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday, Emmanuel Anyaegbulem, the General Manager of TCN’s Port Harcourt Region, outlined the company’s efforts to address the disruption and other achievements in 2024.
Anyaegbulem explained that the blackout began on July 29 after criminals destroyed approximately 20 transmission towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132-kilovolt (KV) line, the state’s sole electricity supply route.
“The repairs posed a significant challenge, but we restored the line on November 30, bringing electricity back to Bayelsa,” Anyaegbulem stated, adding that each transmission tower cost around N13 million to construct.
The General Manager also reported that TCN’s security efforts led to the arrest of 10 suspects involved in vandalism in the region this year.
Out of those arrested, four individuals have been convicted, while six others are in police custody awaiting trial.
Reaffirming TCN’s commitment to reliable power delivery, Anyaegbulem urged Distribution Companies (DisCos) to ensure continuous electricity supply to their customers.
