Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has stated that his only “godfather” is God in heaven, emphasizing his administration’s independence from external influences.
Governor Otti made this declaration during a Thanksgiving service at St. James Methodist Church in Umuda, Isingwu, Umuahia North Council, organized by Hon. Smart Ihuoma, the Mayor of the council.
Addressing concerns about political sponsorship and external pressures often faced by officeholders, the Labour Party governor assured the public that his administration operates free from any dictation.
“One of the challenges in politics is that when people enter office with the support or finances of others, it becomes easy for those individuals to dictate their actions,” Otti said. “But I can assure you that we are standing on our feet. Our only godfather is the God in heaven. We operate an open-door policy and are willing to listen to suggestions, but they will not be treated as orders.”
The governor expressed confidence that his administration’s achievements will set a standard in Abia State, making it difficult for individuals without substance to contest elections in the future. He cited the transformation of Anambra State under Dr. Chris Ngige’s leadership in 1999 as an example of how effective governance can raise expectations among the electorate.
“Since that time, the citizens of Anambra have remained vigilant in protecting their democracy to prevent a return to unfavorable conditions,” Otti noted.
He also expressed satisfaction with the growing public engagement in governance and reiterated his commitment to transparency, promising to maintain open communication with the media and the public.
