Customs seize nine trucks of smuggled rice in Ogun State

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted nine trucks carrying smuggled rice in Ogun State, preventing the contraband from entering the country through the Republic of Benin.

Kola Oladeji, Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing in Lagos.

Oladeji explained that operatives from the FOU Zone A successfully intercepted the smuggling operation, which forced the perpetrators to abandon their vehicles upon spotting the customs officers.

To secure the confiscated goods, the NCS mobilized additional resources, including six buses and 11 patrol vehicles, to transport the rice to their warehouse.

“In line with our operational strategy to avoid firing at smugglers, our officers hired trucks and deployed patrol vehicles to bring the seized items to our facility,” Oladeji stated.

He emphasized that a total of nine trucks, alongside six buses and 11 patrol vehicles, were involved in the recovery process.
