Tinubu’s policies leading Nigerians into poverty – Delta Governor

Must read

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has sharply criticized the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC-led administration, describing them as a “pathway to poverty” for Nigerians.

Governor Oborevwori attributed the current wave of hunger, poverty, and unemployment across the country to the administration’s controversial economic measures, including the removal of the petroleum subsidy and the floating of the Naira.

According to him, the policies have fueled inflation and significantly devalued the nation’s currency, eroding any potential benefits they were expected to deliver.

The governor’s remarks came in response to statements made by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who recently praised Tinubu’s economic strategies during an APC event.

Omo-Agege also accused the Delta State government of mismanaging federal allocations under Oborevwori’s leadership.

In his rebuttal, Governor Oborevwori dismissed the criticisms, questioning the relevance of increased allocations in an economy plagued by inflation and widespread poverty.

He cited reports from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) that have highlighted Nigeria’s alarming poverty levels, noting that the country now holds the unenviable title of the world’s “poverty capital,” with over 130 million citizens living below the poverty line.

“Is this the model Omo-Agege wants Delta to emulate?” Oborevwori asked. “A model that has inflicted untold economic hardship on Nigerians?”

The governor further reiterated that Delta State would not adopt the APC-led federal government’s economic approach, which he argued has only deepened the suffering of the populace.
