Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing him as unqualified to assess the character and leadership of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Frank responded to Akpabio’s recent comments accusing Governor Fubara of “treachery and betrayal” against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Akpabio made the remarks during a public lecture and book launch in Port Harcourt to celebrate Wike’s 57th birthday.
Frank argued that Akpabio’s criticism is hypocritical, stating, “A known betrayer cannot accuse a more decent and responsible man of betrayal. Akpabio and Wike are two sides of the same coin when it comes to treachery.”
He further alleged that both Akpabio and Wike have histories of political betrayal. Frank recalled Akpabio’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC while serving as Senate Minority Leader in 2018, and Wike’s involvement in undermining the PDP during the 2023 elections.
“Akpabio has betrayal in his DNA, and so does Wike. Both of them once criticized the APC but now dine with the same party. Akpabio, who turned the 10th Senate into an extension of the executive, has no moral ground to attack Governor Fubara, who is fighting to liberate Rivers State from Wike’s stranglehold,” Frank said.
He also accused Akpabio of violating Senate tradition by usurping the position of Minority Leader from a more senior senator in 2015, and criticized Wike for serving as a PDP member in an APC-led administration.
Frank called on Governor Fubara to remain focused on serving the people of Rivers State despite what he termed baseless accusations.
“Governor Fubara should not be distracted. God will continue to grant him victory over his political opponents, as seen in the recent Appeal Court judgment restoring monthly allocations to Rivers State,” he added.
He urged the public to disregard Akpabio’s remarks, emphasizing that the focus should remain on addressing the pressing issues affecting Rivers State.
