Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has criticized the inactivity of most opposition parties in challenging the activities of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gabam argued that while Nigerians are a resilient people, the ruling party risks facing a strong backlash if it continues to stifle opposition voices.
He warned that this could happen if the APC’s failure to address key issues persists.
“They should take a lesson from the PDP’s experience and proceed with caution,” Gabam said. “Since coming into power, they have failed to bring meaningful improvements to the economy and are merely experimenting with policies without a clear direction.”
On the role of the SDP in holding the government accountable, Gabam stressed that his party has been actively speaking out against the government’s shortcomings.
He explained that while the Nigerian political system is already in turmoil, adding to the chaos would not be productive.
“The SDP has been one of the most vocal parties in raising concerns and offering constructive advice to the government,” he said.
“We express our views respectfully, urging the government to acknowledge the challenges and take corrective action.”
