FCT police prohibit knockouts to ensure safety during festive season

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a strict warning against the use of firecrackers and fireworks during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.

In a statement released on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, highlighted that the ban is aimed at safeguarding lives and properties and maintaining public order throughout the celebrations.

According to Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, stressed that firecrackers often cause unnecessary alarm and tension within communities.

Additionally, he pointed out that these items pose serious risks, such as fire outbreaks and other avoidable accidents.

The police further cautioned that anyone found selling or using fireworks would face arrest and legal consequences.

SP Adeh called on community leaders and residents to educate others on the potential dangers of firecrackers.

She also urged citizens to stay alert and report suspicious activities or violations of the directive through the emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, and 07057337653.
