The leadership of the Nigerian Senate has issued an arrest warrant against the management of Julius Berger Construction Company for failing to honor its invitation.
The decision was made on Thursday, December 12, following a motion raised by Senator Osita Ngwu, representing the Enugu West Senatorial District.
Ngwu, in his motion, expressed concern over the company’s repeated failure to attend Senate Committee hearings regarding investigations into multiple failed contracts across Nigeria.
He highlighted the company’s numerous incomplete or poorly executed projects throughout the country and called for a thorough investigation into its operations and performance.
The senator emphasized, “When a committee summons an individual or company and they fail to appear, the appropriate course of action is to report the matter to the presiding officer, who can then issue a warrant for their arrest.”
Supporting Ngwu’s motion, Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central added that the Senate has the constitutional right to summon any individual or company under the Senate Rules.
Despite opposition from Adams Oshiomhole, Senate President Godswill Akpabio ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against the management of Julius Berger, marking a serious escalation in the ongoing investigation.
