The Benue State Police Command has arrested Tersagh Ichor, a lecturer at Joseph Saawuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), for allegedly orchestrating the abduction of Susan Anyagh, the wife of the university’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chairman.
Police spokesperson Sewuese Anene disclosed in a statement on Friday that Ms. Anyagh was kidnapped on December 7 along Otukpo Road in Makurdi.
According to the police, Ms. Anyagh was later found unconscious along Yandev-Ugbema Road after being attacked by her abductors.
She was rushed to a healthcare clinic in Ameladu, where she regained consciousness.
The victim recounted that she had stopped her car to assist individuals who appeared to be in need when they entered her vehicle, held her at gunpoint, and ordered her to drive.
Ms. Anyagh recognized Dr. Tersagh Ichor standing nearby and called for help, but he reportedly ignored her and walked away.
While in captivity, Ms. Anyagh overheard her kidnappers receiving instructions from Ichor to kill her.
The attackers eventually abandoned her after robbing her of ₦1,350,000 and striking her with a car jack, leaving her unconscious.
The police confirmed that Ichor has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway.
