The Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the November 2023 Bayelsa elections, Udengs Eradiri, has officially resigned from the party.
Eradiri, along with his running mate, Benjamin Nathus, announced their departure on Thursday, December 12.
The duo, joined by their supporters, followers, and several local government chairmen from the state, submitted letters addressed to the party’s chairman in Yenagoa, Bayelsa’s capital city.
Their resignation letters cited the need to align with a platform better prepared to deliver the leadership Bayelsa requires.
In his letter, titled “Letter of Withdrawal as Labour Party Member” and dated December 8, Eradiri expressed gratitude to the Labour Party but explained his decision to step aside.
He noted that while he had engaged in consultations with stakeholders, internal party challenges and intrigues had hindered their progress.
“But unfortunately, we couldn’t sail through the intrigues and challenges implanted in the party leadership. We are consulting seriously and engaging all stakeholders to decide on the next political party to join,” Eradiri wrote. “Our next party of interest will be one that enables us to serve the people and drive Bayelsa forward.”
Similarly, his running mate, Nathus, in his resignation letter, reflected on the journey within the Labour Party, expressing gratitude for the support he had received.
“I am profoundly grateful for the support and camaraderie of the party members who shared our vision for a thriving Bayelsa and graciously provided me the opportunity to serve as a deputy governorship candidate,” Nathus wrote. “The journey has been enriched with invaluable experiences and insights.”
The politicians are expected to announce their next political affiliations following consultations with stakeholders.
